Arthur Miller's work was based on history, his own observations, or his own life. He frequently showed the internal struggles of working class individuals with guilt, depression, anxiety, and other heartaches. He often sought to express moral views in his works. Miller also did not fear making political statements, regardless of if they were popular or not. He tackled the American Dream, showing the underpinings were not as pleasant as the facade. In Death of a Salesman, he also shows that anyone can have as great a fall and experience as great a tragedy as a hero or monarch. Social status is not a barrier to pain and the need to find out who one is to succeed. |
